Taxcons is a multi-disciplinary team of financial professionals, former tax-examiners, and software engineers. The team is being built to scale alongside potential growth, and has a zero-defect mindset.
Taxcons is a financial reporting and taxation solutions software designed to assist financial professionals in reviewing, controlling and reporting the accounts of their entities.
Objective
Taxcons came to us with a fully functional and effective software and asked us to enhance it visually and make it more appealing, “beautify” it per se. Then the brief evolved to include the development of the user experience too.
Target audience
Taxcons products were designed for finance and accounting managers, tax advisers, and other finance professionals.
Implementation
We understood what Taxcons requested in the first brief; however, we believe that there is much more purpose to design than just beauty. So we convinced our client that it is important to enhance the whole software on the level of visual appeal, practicality and user experience.
Steps
First, we started with extensive meetings with our client, who is a professional in this field. He shared with us his experiences to help us understand every nook and cranny of this software. We had to immerse ourselves in the brains of the professionals to learn their ways and how they think, in order for us to understand how to make their experience seamless and effortless. After many days, sticky-noted walls and burned out brains, we finally grasped the full concept of the software and its functionalities. From there, we began upgrading the design and user experience to best fulfill the product’s purpose. Our team started tracing the user experiences and their different approaches to best integrate all the services into a smooth journey. The main 2 approaches are either the services category or the client category. Under the service category, a list of clients the user is providing services for; whereas under the client category, a list of services that is provided to this client.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the biggest challenges we faced was to help our client understand that there was more value to design than just beauty and it is just as important as the software’s function for the user to have a pleasant and smooth journey.
Another major challenge was for our team to understand the world of finance. We had to unlearn a lot of things that we know and learn to think like finance professionals to create something that works for them. A lot of meetings were set up to acquire knowledge from the different points of view.
The collaboration of our team and our client made it possible to upgrade the software experience to best fit everyone’s needs and expectations.
